Who are the Radioactives?
The Derby City Radioactives is an organization of hobbyists and enthusiasts involved in many areas of radio communications including Amateur (Ham) radio, Citizens Band (CB), FRS/GMRS, Scanning, Shortwave Listening and the Multi-Use Radio Service(MURS)

History
The DCR began as the Channel 4 CB Club which was formed on October 20, 2004 in Louisville, Kentucky by two local CB'ers who became the club's first president and vice president.
In November 2005 we decided to expand the club's scope and become the Louisville area's only general communications club covering all aspects of radio, not just CB. This included changing the club's name, the name Radioactives was suggested by club technician Neil Davis KI4RDF due to the fact that we are active in radio.
From the club's formation to when we became the Radioactives and into today, the organization has held numerous on-air nets and DCR Members have been involved in public service activities such as severe weather spotting and tracking as part of the National Weather Service's "SKYWARN" program and volunteer monitoring of CB channel 9 and other emergency frequencies for emergency and assistance calls.
Since a group of our members started monitroing local emergency frequencies in April 2005 they have received and relayed over 200 calls to various public service agencies.
Our members are NOT required to participate in any public service activity but we do encourage it. The Derby City Radioactives is a radio hobbyist club not a public service or EMCOMM group and is involved in all aspects of the radio hobby. No matter what your radio communications interest is, you are welcome in DCR.
